Is VR Technology Worth The Investment Yet?

Are you thinking about making an investment in VR technology? Then you might wish to read this quick article. For those who intend to use VR tech for things like their real estate company, then the tools certainly exist to make this work as intended. For those who are thinking about buying home VR tech for things like gaming, though? You need to know what you are investing in.

Many believe that simply buying one of the expensive VR headsets out there is enough to get started. Yet, this is not the case. Just like any other piece of software, VR-specific video games come with a very particular setup requirement. It will still need you to have hardware that is good enough to load the game and play it without any delays or dips in performance. Therefore, it isn’t just the VR headset that you are going to need to buy here. Instead, you will need to look a bit further outside of the box and look at other tools.

For one, you will need to invest in a graphics card that can handle the intensity of VR gaming. Most modern graphics cards are VR-compatible, but you should be expecting to pay in excess of $300 just for a graphics card that can handle VR gaming. On top of this, you will also need to invest in a CPU that is strong enough to handle smooth and capable VR gaming. This can set you back at least another $150+, so keep that in mind. Another addition is the investment needed in both enough RAM (we recommend a minimum of 8GB of RAM), and a motherboard that is compatible with every part that you buy.

Safe to say, then, that buying the VR headset is just part of the equation!

Should I buy a VR headset, then? Really, our suggestion would be to think about this is in two ways.

If you have a PC that is good enough to play VR software, then it is an investment well worth making: Whether gaming or using it for other purposes, modern VR headsets can provide outstandingly authentic and enjoyable VR gaming that is really impressive. The feedback and the overall quality of control is astounding and is well worth the investment.

If you still need to upgrade your PC to make it VR-ready, though, we recommend holding off. You could easily invest over $1,000 and still not have enough quality hardware to play games like Half Life: Alyxto a standard you are happy with. And given that VR tech is being released all the time, you might make a large investment only to find yourself at the very bottom of the VR ladder.
